QH Broodmares
We at Black and Blue Quarter Horses have tried to put together some of
the very best broodmares possible. We purchased our first really good
one in 1999 at the "Best of the Remudas" sale held at the R. A. Brown
Ranch in Throckmorton, Texas. She is a beautiful blue roan bred and
raised by the Haythorn Land and Cattle Co. in Ogallala, Nebraska. In
the 2001 "Best of the Remudas" sale we purchased a black mare out of
Drifts Chip offered by the 6666's Ranch located in Guthrie, Texas.
Then in 2003 at the 3rd "Best of the Remudas" sale held at the Stuart
Ranch in Waurika, Oklahoma we purchased another roan Haythorn filly
out of Figure Four Fritz which is a full sister to the one we obtained
in the 1999 sale. Also that day we were able to buy a gray filly sold
by the Pitchfork Land and Cattle Co. also located in Guthrie, Texas.
These ranches were the very first three to win the coveted "Best of
the Remudas" Award. This alone should show our deep commitment to
quality in our broodmare band.
We have quite a few other outstanding mares as well. Several of
them are blue valentine horses. Our blue valentine horses include a
grandson and a granddaughter of Blue Valentine himself. They are both
out of Leo Hancock Hayes, the only son of Blue Valentine's left
producing offspring anywhere in the world. We believe the blue
valentine horses are about as versatile for ranch work as you can
find.
Full Sisters ( Miss Four , Okie and Lightning )
These three full sisters out of Figure Four Fritz and Figure Four 376 are the foundation of our breeding program here at Black and Blue Quarter Horses . Fritz is an own son of Snickelfritz Chex who is a son of King Fritz and Figure Four 376 is a daughter of Eddie Eighty and a grand daughter of Colonel Freckles . That is some awesome breeding ! Just look at the results !
What a view of their hips !
FOUR 976 (MISS FOUR)
"Miss Four" is the best mare owned by Black and Blue Quarter Horses;
although, we now own a full sister to her. This mare was purchased in 1999 from Haythorn Land and Cattle Co. at the first BEST OF THE REMUDAS sale. She has produced one horse colt for us out of Leo Hancock Hayes. Since she produced " Leo " , she has had a red roan filly and two horse colts out of GB Cee Booger Red CL . One of the horse colts is a beautiful Blue roan quarter horse named Four Blue Cannons CL . He can be seen on our "Stallions " page here on this website . SHE IS NOT FOR SALE AT ANY PRICE!!!

Miss Four with her red roan 05 filly born January 26th.
Miss Four is broke to ride and is very quick on her feet . She is one extremely good blue roan quarter horse brood mare ; however , she could have made an outstanding roping horse or an all around cow horse . Our intense summer sun keeps her from looking roan in this picture , but she definitely is a roan horse .
FOUR THREE 076 also known as Okie ( Reg. No. 4370739 )
This filly was purchased by Black and Blue Quarter Horses at the third Best of The Remudas Sale held in the fall of 2003 at the Stuart Ranch located in Waurika, Oklahoma. She is a full sister to Four 976 and is every bit as good. We are very proud to own both of these mares which were bred and raised by Haythorn Land and Cattle Co. in Ogallala, Nebraska. This filly is as gentle as they come and she looks fabulous as a yearling.
This mare will be three years old in May of 2006. She was started by Randall Jones at Whites House Fork in North Baldwin County. She was very easy to break to ride and Randall roped on her some. She is very smart and is a pleasure to ride.
She won the Waldo Haythorn Futurity on Labor Day weekend in 2006.
To win she had to compete in reining , cutting , roping and halter .
What more could you want in a filly?
Photo taken at three months of age in the sandhills of Nebraska.
I could not believe I had the chance to buy this filly. Obviously , she
is NOT FOR SALE and WILL NOT BE FOR SALE as long as I am alive.
Okie is now a full grown mare between 1,300 and 1,400 pounds . She is broke and what a pleasure she is to ride ! She is huge compared to most cutting horses , but she will sure watch a cow .
This is me on Okie ( Four Three 076 ) in the spring of 2006 .
FF THIRTY GUN ( Reg . # 4786290 )
This is one of our very best fillies . She is out of PG Shogun and a daughter of Figure Four Fritz named Figure Four 530 . We bought Thirty Gun in Craig Haythorn's 2006 Production and Reduction Sale . She is registered as a gray ; however , she is a blue roan as of March of 08 .
Craig said that her dam is probably one of the best daughters of Fritz .
He also said that the dam is a neat looking , typey blue roan mare .
She carries both bloodlines that I like so much . That is PG Shogun and
Figure Four Fritz . My hope is that I can enter her in the 2009 Waldo Haythorn Futurity . Some day she will be in our brood mare band ; therefore , she is NOT FOR SALE AT ANY PRICE .
Look up your December , 2006 copy of Western Horseman . Her picture is in that issue .
MISS TOUGH DIXIANA ( Reg. # 3556500 )
This is a black quarter horse mare that stays jet black even during the hottest time of the summer. She was foaled May 4, 1997, and has raised some nice babies. She goes back to Brown's Firefly twice, a mare the Haythorns think of so highly in their breeding program. On her bottom side she goes back to Tough Bar and Sitting Bull. Tough Bar was out of Tonto Bars Gill who was owned by the Gill Cattle Company in California.
If you like black quarter horses, take a long look at this one. She is
surely one of the best foundation broodmares in the breed. She has an old scar from a wire cut on her chest, but it does not hurt her at all.
Dixiana will be bred to GB Cee Booger Red CL for a 2006 foal.
DIXIANA HAD A BEAUTIFUL BLUE ROAN FILLY ON FEBRUARY 26 , 2007 .
WE PLAN TO KEEP THE FILLY FOR A FUTURE BROOD MARE . DIXIANA
HAS BEEN RUNNING WITH FIGURE FOUR FRITZ AND WILL BE BRED FOR A 2008 FOAL . She should produce many more black quarter horse foals or blue roan quarter horse babies .
This is Miss Tough Dixiana and her 2008 Figure Four Fritz filly . The baby was born on March 25th . This picture was taken on March 30th .
I believe we will have another blue roan when this one sheds off .
5/21/09 I sure did miss my guess on this filly's color because she is a yearling now and she is a pure bay roan that will grab your attention right quick . I named her Tough Beaver Six CL .
DIXIE BLUE BERRY CL ( Reg . # 4949476 )
Pretty blue roan daughter of Miss Tough Dixiana and GB Cee Booger Red CL . This filly exhibits class from one end to the other and from top to bottom . Her hindquarter is as good as you would ever want . She also has a very pretty head . As of 10-17-07 she is weaned and has been handled a great deal . She is broke to lead and has been bathed and tied out a lot . I judge her to be the top filly we raised in 2007 .
She is so fine in the spring of 08 that we have decided to keep her for our own brood mare band .
Just look at her head I was talking about !!!
TOUGH BEAVER SIX CL ( Reg. # 5129317 )
Just after her second birthday, Danielle Heil started working Beaver some on ground work under saddle. She sure looks super just like most of Figure Four Fritz's daughters. She reminds us a lot of her half sister,
Okie.
This is another great filly out of Miss Tough Dixianna . Tough Beaver Six is out of Figure Four Fritz and Dixie Blue Berry , shown above , is out of GB Cee Booger Red CL . The roans keep coming! Beaver was born on March 25 , 2008 . She is everything one could want in an ideal ranch horse .
TEDDYS PRETTY SKIP ( Reg. # 3041431 )
Teddys Pretty Skip was born in Texas on May 8, 1991 . She was raised and trained as a ranch horse out there before she was discovered by Clay Collier from Millbrook , Alabama while he was on a hunting trip on the ranch where she had grown up . Clay said he rode this mare for a few days and decided he could not go back to Alabama without owning her . He was able to buy her and he used her to catch wild cows and big bulls for several years all around the Montgomery area .
Eventually she became lame from all of the jolts she took while Clay roped on her . One day he told me he was going to have to sell the mare because he thought she should be placed in a brood mare band . When I heard this I jumped at the chance to purchase her because I too had developed a high opinion of her . I have never been disappointed that I made this purchase . She has produced quite a number of very good foals for us .
If this mare was totally sound , she would be a rancher's dream . She has a seven year old gelding that has made a tremendous calf roping horse . His current owner believes he is one of the top five calf roping horses in the country right now . He tells me he has turned down a tremendous amount of money this summer ( 09 ) for this son of Teddys Pretty Skip . We also have two bay roan daughters of this mare that
catches everybody's eye that sees them .
PRETTY BAR QUEEN CL ( Reg. # 4972595 )
Pretty Bar Queen is a very interesting filly . She was born on March 19 , 2007 and her color at the time was as sorrel as could be . Today as a two year old , she has turned into a very pretty chocolate roan color .
Officially there is no such color , but that is as close as I can come to describing her . This filly is very gentle . You have to push on her to get her to move out of your way . She is well broke to lead , has been tied out and has had her hooves trimmed .
She has a eight year old half brother out of Teddys Pretty Skip named
Red Country Warrior CL that has been trained by Michael Otero for calf roping . He has been doing extremely well at rodeos all over the country .
MICHAEL RECENTLY SOLD CL TO TUF COOPER IN DECATUR , TEXAS. I FEEL LIKE HE HAS HIT THE BIG TIME AS FAR AS GOOD CALF ROPING HORSES GO. TUF MOST LIKELY WILL BE COMPETING ON CL AT THE 2010 NFR.
I think we need to keep this mare for our breeding program and produce some more like her brother.
PRETTY FRITZ SKIP CL ( Reg. # 5089239 )
This is a very pretty filly out of Figure Four Fritz and Teddys Pretty Skip
that was born on March 11, 2008 . Teddys Pretty Skip is the mare that produced the chesnut gelding that Michael Otero has won so much on as a calf roping horse .
"Skippy" is one beautiful bay roan with an outstanding disposition . I really want to keep her for our on program because of her bloodlines.
EARLY IN 2010 TUF COOPER IN DECATUR, TEXAS, BOUGHT RED COUNTRY WARRIOR CL FROM MICHAEL OTERO AND I UNDERSTAND THAT HE HAS BEEN DOING RIGHT WELL ON HIM THIS SUMMER. I HOPE WE WILL BE SEEING HIM AT THE NFR THIS DECEMBER.
BLACK SOLISTA FOUR ( Reg. # 4048582 )
This is a very nice black quarter horse mare. She was sired by one of Haythorn Land and Cattle Company\'s top mature studs, Snickelfritz Flake who is also known as Crunch. He has a huge hip on him and he passes this trait on to his offspring. This eight year mare is broke to ride and she does very well under saddle. She ran with Figure Four Fritz in 2007 and she brought us a bay roan horse colt in 2008 that we sold to Tommy and Susan Allison in North Carolina . They seem to be very pleased with him .
On March 6, 2010, Chocko brought us this black or blue roan filly. It is one fantastic looking baby as you can see for yourself.
This picture was taken on May 8, 2005. She has been running on ryegrass pasture and eating Moorman's horse supplement from a 200#
tub which is 20 % protein.
On 02-08-06 Black Solista Four ( aka " Chocko " ) had this beautiful blue roan filly out of GB Cee Booger Red CL. She will make a wonderful mount for anyone who appreciates a well built horse. Her build comes largely from her grandsire " Crunch ."
Unfortunately , the 06 blue roan filly got her back leg hung in a fence and broke her leg . As a result , we had to put her down after it became obvious that she could not recover .
On 03-12-07 Chocko had a red roan filly out of "Booger" and it was a dandy too , just like her sister we lost . They say lightning does not strike the same place twice ; however , it has in Chocko's case . The 07 filly also died before we could tell how she was going to turn out .
This is a picture taken in the summer of 2009 with Kyle Irwin aboard.
As you can see, her color fades out some in the intense heat of our southeastern sunshine.
MISS PAGOSA COMET ( Reg. # 4391756 )
Born March 27, 2003
This is a beautiful buckskin filly that goes back to the " copperbottom "
line of quarter horses that predate the AQHA by over one hundred years. The stallion named Copperbottom was born in Lancaster , Pennsylvania in 1828 . Later he was purchased by Sam Houston and removed to Texas . From 1839 until 1860 he produced some of the fastest horses for one quarter mile in all of Texas . As you would imagine , his offspring could really keep up with a cow . This filly is 85% foundation quarter horse breeding .
As you can see, she is really built good and has a super disposition.
If you like her and her three year old full sister, I will let you take your pick between the two for $2,500.00. I will then keep the other one for our breeding program.
Remember, they have a coal black quarter horse for a sire and they are beginning to get some black highlights on their coats; although,
they are very pretty buckskins.
AS OF NOVEMBER 23 , 2005 , I HAVE SOLD HER FULL SISTER.
Sire: Blue Country Warrior (Click on image for Pedigree)
Dam: Pagosa Snippy (Click on image for Pedigree)
This is Comet when she was a baby . She is now five years old and should have a 2008 foal from Figure Four Fritz .
FIGURE FOUR 212 ( Reg . # 3076596 )
This is the thickest built ranch bred quarter horse mare I have ever seen . She is real heavy made and deep bodied . She was born on May 10 , 1992 , therefore she has just turned eighteen in May of 2010. Double Bid is in her pedigree on her dam's side along with many other great quarter horses of the past few generations. Somewhere there are two studs out of this fine mare .
On March 2, 2010, Figure Four 212 brought us one of the finest bay roan fillies anyone will ever see. The baby is out of our great Ole ranch stud named Figure Four Fritz. Just look for yourself !
SNICKELFRITZ STAR CL ( Reg . # 4995522 )
This is only an 07 filly , but I am putting her on my brood mare page because she has such good makings of a top notch brood mare . Look at her conformation ; then close your eyes and think of what you believe to be the perfect quarter horse . If you do not see this as a filly with almost ideal conformation , then you and I have a much different opinion of just what a quarter horse should be . She was born on May 4th of last year to a mare named Figure Four 212 and Snickelfritz Flake aka Crunch . Both parents produce very correct foals . She is not a blue roan quarter horse or a black quarter horse , but I like red roans too !
FUNNY B BLUE VALENTINE 052 (BLUE VAL)
Owned by Black and Blue Quarter Horses. "Blue Val" is one of our top three mares.
She is an own daughter of Leo Hancock Hayes , one of only two known producing sons of Blue Valentine left in existence. She has produced one black horse colt out of Blue Country Warrior and is currently bred to GB Cee Booger Red CL for a 2006 foal.
She is broke and is indeed a pleasure to ride.
On February 7th she had a beautiful blue roan horse colt. He is a super stud prospect !!!
This picture of Blue Val 052 was taken in May of 2005. She surely has matured into a great looking young mare and is the possesor of all of the super qualities of Blue Valentine himself.
This is a picture taken on 03-16-06 with her outstanding blue roan stud
colt born on 02-07-06. He is very gentle and just look at the bone on this fellow. It will be fun to watch him grow up.
